Dampproofing and Waterproofing Association of South Africa members are required to abide by a code of conduct. Dodgy waterproofers, who conduct themselves in an unsavory manner, are therefore, weeded out very quickly.
Tips for avoiding bad waterproofing companies:
Long Guarantees – Guarantees of 5 – 10 years or more are extremely unusual. Manufacturers rarely guarantee products for this long.
Read The Fine Print – Guarantees may contain fine print compelling you to pay a percentage of the initial quotation every two years!
Unbranded vehicles – Individuals driving unmarked vehicles should raise red flags.
Due Diligence – Did the representative climb onto the roof to have a look, before sending the quote? Remember, damp in a wall may have many causes and it usually requires an expert to identify the root of the problem.
Business Age – How long has the company been in business? Dodgy waterproofers often over-claim this one!
Just because someone offers you a free survey does NOT mean they are capable or qualified to do one.
